In Advancement, we strive to have an impact – on our students, on our programs, and on our organization or institution as a whole. A successful program is one where the impact is seen as immediate and significant, but also as sustainable and long-lasting.
Oftentimes, circumstances drive us to the more immediate results creating additional work in future years. Impact Development Group strives to work with clients to identify, develop and implement not only processes and programs, but also a culture of philanthropy. Creating this framework can have an immediate and direct effect on institutional goals while building a foundation that is self-sustaining, provide a platform for continued growth, and serve the institution for years to come.
A graduate of Johns Hopkins University, I began my development career as a phonathon caller because it was the highest paying job on campus. As a mathematical sciences major, to me that meant working the fewest number of hours to make the money necessary to pay for college. I had never sold anything in my life – not Girl Scout cookies, not chocolate bars, not anything. I was very fortunate to have a mentor who helped me understand that we weren’t asking for money, but rather inviting people to invest. That perspective has helped me to have a successful twenty-eight year career in advancement in a wide range of institutional settings including liberal arts colleges, public universities (large and small), professional schools, and independent schools.
If you’d like to assess where you are with your development and alumni programs, find meaningful ways to engage faculty in your efforts, get your Board and other volunteers engaged and excited about philanthropy, or plan for the future, Impact Development Group would love to work with you to reach your goals.
